Watching Alan Carr Chatty man last night and Mille from Made in Chelsea was wearing THE MOST GORGEOUS TOP. EVER. I couldn’t take my eyes off it, and was still obsessing about it after an uneventful Google search. I took myself off to bed then all became clear in the morning. It was glaringly obvious where I should go to try and find this piece of beauty and that was Oxford Street, or more specifically London’s flagship store AKA Selfridges.
I still regard a trip to Selfridges as a bit on the posh side and this makes me feel like dressing up and making an effort. I don’t mean putting on my Sunday best and starched white gloves. I either want to have just stepped out of a salon hair that I can toss around in a careless manner like the ads (only likely if I’ve actually been to a salon), or I want an outfit that looks like its been casually thrown together in 5 minutes but ticks all the boxes. There’s something inside me that wants to feel I look like a regular. I’m not talking about the ground floor, I mean the uppers where the serious collections are.
I went for something spring like but warm at the same time. After a few minutes deliberation, I for opted for layers. That way I could take one off when I was inside and put it back on after. First point of call was my trusty blue skinnies from Miss Selfridge. Bought in autumn last year, I definitely feel I have got all £38 pounds worth of my money. Readers – if you get to know me, or already do – you will know value for money is incredibly important to me. And not just about jeans. About pretty much everything. But that’s a whole new blog I could start. Back to the jeans.
I added a plain black jersey top – this one’s really simple from Dorothy Perkins would you believe? Like with other black items I’ve talked about so far, it looks really plain on its own, so in true Fiona style I blinged it up with my new mother of all necklaces - my Max Mara foce For me, necklaces and scarves are absolute essentials in my life. You can see adding it to the plain jane top completely changes the look.
Next was my main source of warmth – Zara pink feather gillet bought last year. Wearing this over the top really pulls the outfit together, although in this photo it looks a bit pimp like! You can see bits of the necklace underneath - the blue in it looks great with the skinnies.
Pink flats (no matter how hard I try and can’t shop in heels) and my fait accompli - favourite classic Gucci tote completed my look. I was ready. Now all I had to do was hunt down the top!
